"I never have enough time or energy to lose weight!"
No comments ˇ Posted by CME in Uncategorized
If you've just joined us, you might want to read the last post to get
up to speed. In short, we are looking at the myriad of reasons that
can prevent you from doing what's required to lose weight and in the
process, showing how your mindset is most of the problem and also most
of the solution.
Let's take the scenario of being too tired and having no energy to get
to exercise, perhaps you are getting up through the night as well as
looking after children, a husband and a household too. You may even be
studying or working part time on top of that. This leaves you little
time and energy to get to the gym and you tend to eat on the run and do
what's simple and convenient food-wise as well.
Now lets play with this scenario a bit: you can relate it to your own
version of the "No time-No energy" dilemma as we go through it.
I'll put my coach's hat on and treat this similar to how I'd approach
it with a client.
Often, my first question is: "So how do you think busy, yet healthy
people do it then?"
This is the question I posed in the previous post.
Once we cut to the chase, we find that the difference is their mindset.
They simply see it differently - the first thing is that they see
healthy eating and exercise as higher on their priority list. That's
the first clue. Over and above that, they count or value their health
or their energy levels and how they look and feel on a daily basis.
So it's firstly a values thing - when something is important enough to
us, we make time for it. I bet there are things in your life that you
make time for regardless of how busy or tired you are - like your kids
for example, or even your favourite TV show.
The second clue is that they are looking at solutions rather than
obstacles. In other words, they are asking: "How can I do it?",
rather than getting buried in all the reasons why they can't do it.
Now I know to you, your situation genuinely or should I say perceivably
feels impossible - I acknowledge that, however once you've come to that
conclusion then you are literally blind to solutions and your
rationalizing supports the idea that it can't be done. Simply put, you
must get out of the "too tired and no time" box.
Hey, if someone genuinely offered you a million dollars to lose the
weight you wanted to and it was real - do you think you'd make the time
and find the energy? Just knowing that alone would raise your energy
levels wouldn't it?
There's another clue - one of the biggest energy sappers I've found to
be for people, is actually the drain and flatness that stems from all
the areas they are not happy with in their lives. Where they are not
feeling fully alive, and are out of balance, frustrated and disgruntled
with what they are not doing. The truth is, if we are invigorated in
our lives as opposed to being energetically or spiritually numb, you
can actually get by on way less sleep than you probably think. All the
more reason to start doing the things you say you want to ... isn't
it?
(by spiritually numb i mean to what degree are you living in line with
your values and demonstrating the things you hold true and important -
which is one of our most potent energy sources)
That aside, what I do first, is really challenge and literally
invalidate someone's current thinking and there are many ways to do
that. You can start with the awareness that your current thinking isn't
going to get you to your goals - therefore, it's not serving you and it
might be time to shift your perspective and open up to new thinking
that will support you going forward.
Speaking of invalidating or undermining your current thinking - let's
talk about the low, no energy factor for a moment and use that as an
example. Now think about this: if you are low on energy, then guess
what a good part of the natural solution to that is ... better
nutrition and regular exercise! These two vital aspects also
contributes to better quality sleep. So isn't that an instant reason
to raise those two things up your important list?
Here is another secret and an easy way top shift your perspective - you
must begin to see exercise and eating healthier as complimentary and
actually as an enhancer to all those other things that are also
important to you - the very things that you use as reasons why you
can't be healthier.
Isn't it true that feeling better about yourself, having more energy
and being more mobile, able and willing to do more things will be
better for your kids, make you more productive around the house or at
work? In a nutshell, being lighter, healthier and more energetic is
going to enhance all other aspects of your life. You are not going to
lose time - you are going to gain time and energy ... exponentially!
So ... stop sensing it as detracting from, or interfering with life.
It must be seen as a priority and as your friend and ally with respect
to both time and energy - because that's closer to the truth of it
anyway.
We can only skim over some of these, however as we touch on more common
scenarios over the next few posts you'll get the hang of it and I'll
give you a summary and a kind of formula too.
Now let's take a quick look at the practical aspect of things. But
firstly, I trust you now understand that you'll only see, be open and
responsive to and stick with any new behavioural options if you have
gotten out of your "impossible" or, "too hard" box and aligned your
mindset more to the behaviour and outcomes you are seeking.
Now you can brainstorm ways to change things because you are now in a
"how can I?', or in other words, a solutions-orientated state of mind.
Basically, you are now in a "possibility" thinking mode - so you can
now start using some more useful questions to yourself. For example,
if you had been offered that million dollars to stop excusing yourself
and get into action, where would you start?. If you were to make time,
how would you do that? In a practical sense, you could try a few things
and see what increases your energy. This could include nutrition,
pampering yourself, drinking more water, getting that hobby going
you've always talked about and starting to play with the kids.
That brings me to my next point - there are opportunities to find ways
to increase how much you move within your usual lifestyle. Playing with
the kids, walking them to school, taking the stairs rather than the
elevator, lumping the more physical chores together and doing them
vigorously. I personally put the baby in the pram, walk the other two
to school and keep going for five ks or so and usually run part of that
at least every 2nd morning. If it rains, I put the storm cover on and
love it even more because I don't get stinking hot. I then lie the baby
down in her gym and do stretches for 10 to 15 minutes with her on the
mat. Do you see what I mean here? I also do it in the morning because
if I don't then it's less likely to happen because more things threaten
to get in my way, plus I have the right energy for it at that time of
the day, AND I know it energises my day. You can find what works for
you as well!!
Brainstorm this! Get creative and playful. You could talk to others
that do this stuff to get ideas and inspiration. I can guarantee you
that there are people busier than you perhaps even with real
disabilities that make being tired pale into insignificance and now you
should also be realizing that a good part of low energy is a mindset
thing too.
Seriously, go and `Google' low energy and write down ten ways to boost
your energy and then implement the one or two that float your boat the
most.
If you have your own great and innovative ideas that others could
benefit from then feel free to put suggestions on the comments part of
the blog too - that would be awesome.
The bottom line is -- you can spend your days feeling unenergetic OR
you can get pro-active and do something about it - the difference is
your attitude. What would you suggest to a friend or loved one that
confided in you with the same challenges you had?
I'll leave you with that question - I have a million of them and that
speaks of our profound ability to steer our brains in a ton of
different directions to produce different outcomes . I trust you are at
least starting to feel less stuck now.
Oh ... here is another secret (and you might already know it) - when we
are not doing something, we are often making it way bigger than it is
in our heads and then you finally do it and wonder what all the fuss
was about. Yet another illusion of the mind - the fact is you have to
spend time eating and preparing food and to top that off, organization
and preparation save time! Yet, so often it's felt as a hassle or once
again, the old "I don't have time" mantra. Do you now see how ironic
that is? Dump those old worn out excuses and mantras and wake up to
new possibilities, that alone will energize you.

Mind over matter - blowing out common weight loss roadblocks
No comments ˇ Posted by CME in Uncategorized
Hey I'm back as promised to start to show you how to work around some
of the typical challenges you might face when it comes to losing
weight.
What I'm actually going to do is teach you how to use these seeming
hurdles to learn how to use your mind and shape your mindset for
permanent and struggle free weight loss. These sticky scenarios that
often get the better of you are actually great for demonstrating the
attitude, principles and techniques for changing your mind and
experiencing how the mindset shift will result in more options and
ultimately the change in behaviour you are seeking.
Unfortunately, without this knowledge most people are stuck in the
problem and focused solely on finding a practical (external or
behavioural) solution. The problem is though, the way your mind works
means that you actually won't see or be open to solutions if you've
already decided it can' be done or it's too hard.
There are some important things you need to understand before we get
into tending to each issue and that's the first thing to recognize -
there is an old saying that goes "whether you think you can or you
think you can't - you're right" Because it's how you think about it
that determines what's possible and the degree to which you can tap
into your own internal resources to make a change.
Think of it this way: if, for example you see it as just too much
hassle to eat healthy when you have kids - you know because you'd
almost have to cook two different meals. Or if you simply don't get
time to exercise and prepare healthy food because you are always
looking after everyone else, then I have a question for you.....
Then how do all the "so called" healthy people do it? They are just as
busy, they have the very same demands as you do yet somehow they get to
the gym regularly and are able to satisfy their family's varying needs
and it's not such a huge deal to them.
There are a ton of different reasons/excuses that I bump into daily
with people and they are always going to be there, they change as
different aspects of your life change. I acknowledge that whatever it
is for you feels very real as a road block however not only are you
about to learn that there are always multiple solutions, you're also
about to learn that in the end it's more a mind game than anything
else.
The practical solutions do have their place and you can find these
anywhere but unless it smooths over the friction in your mind you are
liable to begrudge the change anyway and that sets you up for self
sabotage. For a smooth transition into a fitting solution your mindset
must both open up and match the shift in your life-style
So as we look at each example throughout the next few posts I'll show
you the formula I use as I coach clients through these challenges and
within that you'll also get some of their solutions to those roadblocks
that might also be interfering with your ability to truly lose weight
(and certainly to do that with a sense of ease rather than struggle)
For now I urge you to really reflect on the question I posed in a
previous paragraph (in italics) which can be a game breaker in and of
itself. Resist the urge to say oh they are lucky because.... or their
situation is probably different - as that's your mind playing games
with you - instead ask: "what could this question teach me?"
See you at the next post ...
Oh before i go i thought it might be nice for you to be able to put a
face to the name so here is a photo from the presentation i did last
week for the Mums in the city group - you'll know which one is me!

Weight loss solutions for busy mums - and dads too
No comments ˇ Posted by CME in Uncategorized
I Haven't forgotten about you - I'm back and re-energized and further
armed to help you truly lose weight. Read on even if you're not a busy
mum or dad because the insights and learning's will be valuable for you
too.
Two things I've done just recently are firstly the retreat with Damian
Kristof from the TV. series downsize me where I was invited to present
my mindset expertise to the group there. I'll shed some light on the
interesting experiences there and how that can help you over the next
few weeks.
2ndly, the other night I went and did a presentation for a group called
mums in the city locally and the reason I mention these two experiences
is that they brought to light a few things that I felt would be useful
to pass on to you.
I happened to mention to the mums that I have been pretty much
operating as a house husband i.e. looking after kids (ages 11, 8 and
now 5 months - the 2 youngest are girls) as well as working when I can
in between. Being in this situation has given me some first hand
insights and empathy into the challenges that busy mums and in some
cases dads face with regards to losing weight in the midst of all the
goings on of family life. Those demanding L.P.s - little people and
the never ending stream of household chores and errands that seem to
come with the package.
So I thought we'd do some writing on the sorts of things that came to
light so you can see how to effectively navigate these real life
situations and in fact use them to train your mind and to lose weight.
For those of you that maybe aren't in the busy mum or dad category I'll
bet you're still busy in your own way and so you can adapt the
principles and ideas here to your personal challenges. Once you hear
how to use your mind to get around these issues you can apply it easily
to anything.
Here are some example of the sorts of things that arose which we'll go
into in upcoming posts
Those ever present coffee groups and café meetings with tempting
delights and baked goodies
The cheesecake versus the healthy alternative battle - how do you win
that one?
No time - too busy looking after everyone else, I'm always at the
bottom of the heap
Really tired, getting up through the night - no energy left at the end
of the day.
I used to be able to get to the gym but now I just can't because of the
...demands - i.e. those seemingly impossible "can't do it, too hard
these days" scenarios.
What are you supposed to do when it gets cold and wet - I can't seem to
motivate myself
I go o.k. then something comes up and I fall off the wagon and then I
feel guilty and think; "what does it matter I've blown it anyway" - and
it goes from bad to worse
It's too much of a mission - I'd have to cook different meals for me
and the "others"
If you can relate to any of these and or have your own unique scenarios
we could use then stay tuned I'll be back on Friday with another post.
We will touch on these one at time so you get the hang of how to use
your mind to deal with such seeming dilemma's - because knowing how to
work with these challenges is another key cog in freeing yourself from
the weight loss struggle once and for all.
Also if you do have your own scenarios that you'd like to solve then
you can ad a comment to the blog and we will use them too.

Why no recent blog entries? update
No comments ˇ Posted by CME in Uncategorized
Just writing a quick post to update you on why I haven't been active on
the blog lately and fill you in on what's happening from here...
Since this has been the longest gap between blog entries - (although
my intention was to actually step up the regularity and liven up the
blog this year), I felt I owed you an explanation. So here it is -
between computer problems and internet issues, I've been unable to get
to the blog. You may have noticed for a brief period that you were
unable to access the blog too...
On top of that, I've had personal reasons, including a new baby
daughter that have obviously meant a temporary rearrangement of
priorities.
The good news is that (cross fingers) the technical problems are behind
me now and I have learned some good things that will serve us going
forward. In another weeks time I will also be where I want to be, with
the time to step things up as intended. That means two to three quality
posts per week, as well as making the blog more interesting with video
posts and offering progressively more value and recommended quality
links to all the resources you need to get the changes you need.
In the time out, I have been brushing up on how to create a better
blog, so that's been a positive side effect.
The reason I said in another week is because from Wednesday, I'll be
presenting my mindset material at a weight loss retreat offered by
Damian Kristof from the "Biggest Loser" TV Programme. I'm looking
forward to the few days ahead and will be sure to fill you in on what I
gain from the experience, which you can utilize. I'm back on Monday
(the 28th of March) and raring to go! You can expect some meaty info
before the end of the month, which will be Thursday of the same week
and then two entries as promised per week, plus a progressive
upgrading of the blog from that point on.
I hope this helps and I will give you some incentive to stay tuned into
the blog. I also have a couple of other surprises planned in the month
of April, which I'll fill you in on as we go.
Looking forward to bringing you my best...
Regards
Craig

The first thing you must do for weight loss and dieting success
No comments ˇ Posted by CME in Uncategorized
This also answers the question: Where do you start in terms of shaping
up your mindset for true weight loss?
You must get your mind on-side to lose weight and keep it off - you
must also do the same to willingly stick to any diet, eating plan or
exercise programme for that matter.
If you aren't doing what you know you need to currently then that
pretty much indicates you don't have your mind on-side and that also
indicates you are likely to be working against yourself.
So how do you get your mind onside then? Well, in simple terms it is a
combination of two fairly well known things however, they need to be
done differently than the ways you may have been accustomed to.
There are some distinctions that are crucial to your success. The two
things in essence are - getting clear on WHAT you want and WHY you want
it. We'll focus briefly on the first one in this post.
A couple of questions for you first....
What will get your own attention? What will raise the idea of losing
weight up as a priority and make it something well worth shooting for
in your life? What will make it important enough to act on and do
what's required enthusiastically amidst the busyness of your life?
Here is the secret formula I use: brains need to be told where to go,
in a language they can understand and in a way that makes going there
"appear" worthwhile. With that formula in mind, here are some of the
important keys I've found to make the difference with my clients which
fittingly go beyond traditional goal setting because most people have
tried that to no avail.
Get clear on what you don't want - and use that to get clear on what
you do want. Don't put the focus on losing weight; instead focus on
what having lost the weight will give you (everything it will give
you!)
From that pick out 2 to 3 things that have the following 3 criterion
1.They are meaningful and emotional - you feel emotion when you
focus on it.
2.As you think about it, it causes you to step into the body that
you are seeking.
3.It provides clear evidence of being where you want to be i.e.
having achieved the results you want.
Then turn those things into mini-movie scenes that you can
write out and also imagine as if they are happening now
and you already have those end results.
Put reminders up and around you that represent these selected
end results that you are wanting. Put these reminders where you'll
see them regularly and also read, revisit and review your 2-3 scenarios
at least once daily (ideally when you awaken and before you go to
sleep)
In doing so, you'll bring our formula to life - you'll give your brain
a clear direction of where to go far more powerfully than a written
goal. You'll feed your system a multi sensory experience which you have
to do to influence the necessary parts of your mind-body system and to
inspire new action. You'll set up a compelling future that's (in your
eyes) worth shooting for and you'll go beyond thinking about it to
feeling about it which is crucial.
In short you'll get your mind on-side so that it will begin to work for
you rather than against you. This one step is crucial and it pulls all
else into alignment including your behaviour.
It's central to the re-alignment that you need, it even makes it easy
to change the rest of your mind and emotional responses. It sets up a
top of mind criterion - policies of mind for what you'll naturally say
Yes to and No to which is an easier way to (so called) "diet" too.
I could go on but I trust you are starting to see the magnitude of this
and I'll finish by saying if you don't get this foundational pillar in
place, then you're in for a long fight perhaps even a lifetime fight
because all of your psychology matches the way you have been.
Feel free to leave your comments about this post which will help me to
make them more and more useful for you - See you at the next post.
Hopefully my computer issues are behind me so i can now get to the 2-4
posts i'm aiming to get out to you weekly through 2011 so make sure you
stay in touch with the blog.

Getting your mind on side to lose weight
No comments ˇ Posted by CME in Uncategorized
Hey! and welcome to 2011 - this is the first official post for the year
so I thought I'd start at the start - and ask the question; so what do
you do first, plus give you some previews into what's to come.
If you are at the blog then I'll assume you want to lose weight and
maybe you haven't had the success you desire yet. I can also assume
you've probably tried a few different "diets" or weight loss programmes
so far. I won't go into why your mind holds the key to your success
because that's already been covered in previous posts. If you are here
then you must have figured out that there has been a missing component
in your approach so far, meaning; you'll need to change your mindset.
I'll wrap it up by saying you simply can't get different results if you
come from the same mindset that got you to where you are now - no
matter what new diet you try.
So where do you start with this mindset thing?
Well in a nutshell there are 3 layers to this - so in this post I'll
give you these and then we can begin to break things down from that
point on.
The first one is getting your mind on side,
The second one is changing what you hold in mind
The third one is using your mind for "a change"
These aspects interrelate to some degree however there is also a
logical sequence to things so let's look briefly at the first phase now
Getting your mind on side is the equivalent of giving yourself a wake
up and shake up - it means doing what it takes to raise the idea of
losing weight up in your mind as a priority in your life. If you don't
take this one step then it will always get buried by life or you'll
never move through the ups and downs and/or sustain enough focus to
change and establish new patterns. Also if you don't get this initial
key in place all else (the best advice or guidelines in the world and
even the best of mindset tools and techniques) will fall on deaf ears
or won't get through.
It's also about knowing HOW to get your minds attention and how to
shift losing weight on to your important list and also doing it in such
a way that it actually makes an impression at the neurological level.
You'll also need to know how to do this in a way that feels good and
sets things up in your mind body system so that you are naturally
energized and enthused about doing what you need to do - which is all
possible.
I'll give you some sound tips on how to do this crucial set up in the
next post which I'll do before the end of the week - there are some
definite keys to success here which most people tend to miss.
If you haven't looked over the rest of the blog I invite you to do so
because that will give you understandings and motive to come back and
learn more about `the how to' as we step into this New Year.
You'll get insights into changing what you hold in mind and what that's
about in the previous posts and we'll get into the biggest mindset
(hidden) things that really influence your behaviour and body (even
over and above food)
Plus we'll step into how to use your mind as we go along. A little
secret on that topic is that if you are like most people you are
largely uninformed about how to actually use your mind when it comes to
creating real change in your life. The result of that is "your mind is
actually using you rather than you using it" and you are left with a
bunch of really ineffective ways to try and get yourself to do what you
need to do.
So plenty to look forward to and I'll also aim to include lots of
client examples and real life scenarios to help you gain the learning
you need as well as connecting you to any other useful resources that
will make your journey easier.
See you at the next post.

How to gaurantee you'll lose weight in 2011
No comments ˇ Posted by CME in Uncategorized
Hey - welcome back to the blog and happy new year.
Be sure to read this first post for 2011 all the way though as it has
an important message for you and an awesome offer I'm setting up just
until the end of January.
Ever wonder why so many people set New Years resolutions but only a
very small percentage of people actually ever stick to them?
There are real reasons why this occurs and the fact of the matter is
desire, discipline and will power aren't enough - they reside in one
part of the brain and unfortunately 90% of your actions stem from
another part, which is why you can want to change really badly, but
keep doing something else.
So there is a need to go beyond this to actually aligning your mindset
to the changes that you want. In effect, this will not only ensure your
success, but you'll experience the changes you need to go through
easily. The ease, as opposed to the struggle is actually at the very
heart of why you will succeed this time.
So how can you make 2011 any different than any other year?
Well, what it's really about is a RE-SOLUTION - if what you've tried in
the past hasn't worked then you need to try something different.
The downfall of most people and possibly of your previous resolutions
is trying to force yourself to do things differently and to make
different choices without changing the programming (the mindset) that
is controlling your behaviour. This approach only feels like a fight
and sets you up for self-sabotage, disillusionment and ultimately, so
called "failure".
So the first key to a different 2011 is you will need to address your
mindset. The point here is you need to set the changes you want up
properly in mind before you truck out all enthusiastic, trying to do
things differently and expecting that to last. If you don't know how
to change your relevant mindset - then even with your best efforts you
can be actually working against yourself - maybe you've felt that!
The second thing is that you'll need to enlist your mind to come to
your aid in a certain way. That certain way is called a STRATEGIC
ALIGNMENT and it goes way beyond discipline, will power and so called
motivation.
What are you going to do for yourself this year so that you can and do
produce different results in 2011?
If you don't yet have a plan then let me offer you some suggestions -
my suggestion is to go and read some of the other posts in this blog to
get an understanding of exactly what a strategic alignment is and why
it's essential to not only your weight loss success but more
importantly to your freedom from the struggle and the whole weight loss

What's the bottom line when it comes to you losing weight!
No comments ˇ Posted by CME in Uncategorized
Let's cut to the chase.....
THE BOTTOM LINE IS....You need to move from having to eat healthier
to wanting to.
THE BOTTOM BOTTOM LINE IS until you make this shift it will always
be a battle for you to consistently eat the healthier options and
therefore it won't last. Because it will feel like an effort and
part of you will feel deprived and in effect you'll be fighting
yourself, which is indeed the struggle you are probably all to
familiar with.
THE BOTTOM BOTTOM BOTTOM LINE IS - do what ever you need to, to
genuinely create positive feeling internal links and associations
towards real and
healthy foods.
By the way, it's not that hard when you know where to go - even if you
are wondering if you could actually do it.
If you are with me so far on this, then I invite you to go check
this out immediately ...>>Click Here!<<
You see, it's all about what you are gravitating towards rather than
what you can get yourself to do, using will-power for a week, two weeks
or even a six week programme. If you are struggling to make the right
choices, that's an indication that you are not in alignment with your
goal to lose weight. Effectively, you are working against yourself
and that is of course an uphill BATTLE.
What's the difference between being in alignment as opposed to not?
One is working hard and the other is working smart, one is self
sustaining
and the other is self sabotaging, one feels like a struggle and the
other has a sense of ease about it, one will last and one won't, so
one is setting up for success and the other is setting up for .......
(I'll let you fill in the blank and I'm pretty sure I don't have to
tell
you which is which.)
The question is - which category are you in currently when it comes to
losing weight and which road will you take going into 2011?
If what I'm saying makes sense to you and you would rather work smart
than hard (if your done fighting yourself) then I've got just what you
need.
How to get these bottom line shifts is at the heart of this..
Go and see it for yourself >>Click Here!<<
I've even added some other special xmas bonuses that you'll find
timely - on how to get through the Xmas/NewYears break and already
be on the forward foot going into the new year.
The bottom line is also this - am I trying to sell you something here?
The answer is: absolutely yes, because I genuinely want you to succeed
and
this product houses some of my newest and most powerful material to
help
you get the changes you are seeking. It's what I do - I help people
lose
weight. If you don't invest in yourself then nothing will change. This

The keys to stopping emotional eating!
Comments off ˇ Posted by CME in Uncategorized
These are the finer points in the art of negotiation with your self so
that you can strategically manage emotional eating
This is also a fuller explanation of step 3 from the previous post
The key here is to communicate with the part of yourself that is
driving the behaviour you want to stop or adjust. It's important to
realize that this part of you actually has a positive intention for you
however the way it's going about it is not good for you overall. E.g.
part of you is seeking to de-stress (that's cool) but it's using food
to do so which isn't serving you in the long run. So it's useful to
separate the intention from the behaviour as you do the steps in the
previous post.
You must get agreement from this part of you too that food isn't really
doing what it says it is (i.e. it's not really solving the problem or
realistically dealing with the stress is it - at best it's a
distraction and then you feel worse) So work with this and the idea
that there could be other more constructive ways that more genuinely
tend to those feelings (which you can use whenever those feelings arise
again).
Enlist the part of you seeking to relax along with the creative side of
yourself to come up with 2-3 genuine alternative ways that you could
relax or de-stress (that don't involve food) - and that actually more
realistically satisfy the feeling/s you have and are seeking to feel.
You can literally have a conversation with this part of you and
negotiate by saying "hey if we can come up with some other ways for you
to still get what you are needing and it also be good for our direction
then would you be willing to come on board".
If its anxiety or stress you feel you will be seeking relief from that
or relaxation - in a general sense we are seeking to move from some
sort of negative feeling (discomfort) to a more positive feeing
(comfort).
So what other ways can you get that sense of release, downtime or
relaxation that don%

Steps for dealing with emotional eating
No comments ˇ Posted by CME in Uncategorized
1. Identify the feeling you are feeding.
o What are you feeling before you eat and with that, what is the
feeling you are seeking to get?
o What is the void you are filling?
o In the typical scenarios where emotional eating occurs, what are you
feeling and aiming to feel?
2. Quality control your response
o Is the food really providing you with the feelings you want - how do
you feel afterwards?
o If you perceive that the food is doing what you say it is, how is it
doing that?
o Could there be more realistic and constructive ways to get those
feelings?
Emotional hunger cannot be satisfied with food, so the hunger may
continue because it is not really food that you need.
3. Break the pattern/identify alternatives
o Identify 3-4 other (genuine) ways of getting the feelings you want
that don't involve eating.
Negotiate with yourself find alternative ways of getting the feelings
that you want and create a menu of these from a position of strength -
i.e. in advance. (don't try to do this when the feeling already "has
you"
4. Integrate the new response
Imagine using these new responses and select the one that fits/feels
best.
Mentally rehearse your new response - before you have to use it.
(this allows you to test your alternatives, associate new feelings to
your old scenario and to pre-programme the new response you want, hence
opening the door to the changes you want - and with least resistance.
A couple of quick client examples and tips
I had one client who we discovered was mainly just tired and all it
took was an actual cat nap at a certain time of the day and the problem
was solved.
For another client it was a stress thing coupled with the end of the
work day and coming home, their was also a sort of ritual (behavioural
pattern) or chained response i.e. going to the fridge pouring a glass
of wine, grabbing snack foods and sitting in front of the t.v. (the
steps above apply equally as welll to breaking those chains too) so we
used a similar process to attend to that as well. The replacement that
worked for her was to get some exercise and fresh air - a natural
stress relief plus it helped her to lose weight - a simple win-win,
which I advocate as the ideal substitute behaviour.
A third client found that is was evening time once her daughter went to
bed and that feeling lonely was the culprit. Just walking out from her
daughters bedroom cued that feeling and boom - out came the biscuits
and hidden sweets and away she went. So guess what? We worked on
helping her to not feel lonely and changing her perspective on that so
she valued that time (which I would have loved to have) and then of
course we were easily able to identify great ways to use the time that
also negated the loneliness.
Tips
It's easier to interrupt and replace something than to stop or give
something up.
Note that all the steps are relevant and that the power is in doing
them together
Especially initially then you can adlib a bit.
The actual feeling may not be so obvious hence the first step. In the
last example we had to do the first step to actually identify that it
was loneliness - often it's not such a conscious thing.
Tend to the emotional voids in your life - basically you are filling
the gap of an unmet need with food - it's the feeling you need to tend
to.
The final step is really important and makes it all work - in
rehearsing your new response first in your mind you make it much more
likely and easier for it to happen in the physical. I strongly urge you
to do this!
In the next post I'll give you more on this and an expanded view of
step 3 and the finer points of negotiating with your self.
Don't forget to post your comments and feedback - and hey, let me know
if you are on facebook and especially if you are an avid user of
facebook. I'm looking at setting up a page there and getting a like
minded group and better conversation going there. Let me know if you
think it's a good idea and if you'd be willing to tell your friends
that have a need or interest too. If we have a few people interested
then I'll get it cranking asap.
Let me know what else you want to know about! What are your biggest
challenges?

Heads up: There's an ongoing spamdexing of Google searchbot algorithms. Sites that are 'copies of copies' and cloaked sites which include Zorgium keywords presented to search engine crawlers yet garbage content presented to human visitors were hosted on thousands of IP addresses and domains registered immediately after the introduction of Zorgium in November of 2009. The Hostgator/'The Planet'/Softlayer datacenters in Texas seem to be the epicenter of this activity in conjunction with anonymously registered domains of various TLD's but primarily .info domains at Godaddy which, in our opinion, has some sort of connection to the domains of goldmint.in and goldmint.org. Google has begun to notice this and has begun to lower the ranking of these sites and put our original sites back on top of the search rankings. These actions, as far as we can tell, negatively impact the use of the keyword 'zorgium' as a search term and provided little benefit, if any, to the perpetrators.
ZORGIUM note to content providers: If you don't want your page to appear in Zorgium's search abstraction then put an exclusion for "Zorgium" in your web server's robots.txt file.
